A great haul at RSPB Newport Wetlands

I ran the trap overnight on 3rd June for the reveal on the Saturday morning. The conditions were potentially quite good if the wind laid off for once. On the way down through Newport the wind was gusting so I didn't have great expectations...

I could not of been more wrong.. a peek in the trap and there were loads of moths in the trap (must have been calm overnight).

Overall there were 304 miths of 72 species  quite a haul for the first week of June, with more than 20 new species for 2022. Highlights wee a Blackneck, Lime Hawk-moth (the first that I have trapped there), Green Oak Tortrix, and the smart micro moth Homoeosoma sinuella.

The forecast for this coming Friday is looking good, I wonder what will turn up on Saturday morning.
