Dr Martin Anthoney
It is with great sadness that Martin's family have asked us to advise you of his peaceful death in the Royal Gwent Hospital on Friday 11th March.
A service will be held in Sirhowy Valley Crematorium. As yet we have no date but will advise you of all details concerning this as soon as we have the information.
This is a great loss to all he befriended and also a great loss of some one who made a huge contribution to our knowledge of this county's wildlife and in particular Lepidoptera.
Martin's illness was mercifully short and the care he received in hospital was in every way exemplary.
An obituary will be published here in due course.
Very sorry to hear this news. Thoughts are with Martin's family.
ReplyDeleteThis is sad and surprising news to me as I had no idea Martin was ill. I met Martin several times over the years on field trips, meetings etc. and found I would always be wiser on the the 'Lepidoptera front' after coming in contact with him. He would always help, advise me, share information, often through e-mail enquiry, often to the point where he would lose me at times with his detail, such was his knowledge on the subject.
ReplyDeleteHis encyclopedic knowledge on the subject of Lepidoptera will be greatly missed throughout Gwent and a loss to all the Monmouthshire Moth and Butterfly Group members no doubt.
Thoughts are with Martin's family.
