Scarce Prominent and Broom-tip in Tintern

Despite the strong and cold north-easterly wind, Hazel Mitchell recorded two scarce species in the Tintern moth-trap last night (12/4) - Scarce Prominent (O. carmelita) and Broom-tip (C. rufata). Scarce Prominent is a new site record and Broom-tip only the second site record.

Not bad for such an unpromising looking night!

  1. Well done Hazel, these are very nice species to discover at Tintern and in good condition I might add.
I remember I was quite excited to see these moths when I've been out trapping of a night; and yes, they are not too common at all in the county Steve as far as I can tell. There must be more sites but we will not be finding many this year due to the virus unfortunately. One positive, is we could find lots more in our garden environment, so all is not lost!
