Fedw Fach, Trellech
I had pencilled in this site a few days ago but winds were not in the right direction for this to be viable, but today Tuesday 10th it could work alright. Ground off track was wet and mucky in some areas after another dousing of rain and the stream at the site was invigorated with more energy babbling away to itself in a rhythmic action over stones. I just caught sight of some dog walkers disappearing around the woodland track equipped appropriately with wellington boots, but other than that the night to follow would only be broken by an distant Tawny Owl calling.
Setting up I saw an small bat silently making its way around the trees. I only saw it once more so it must have another favourite spot other than here, thankfully.
The night was a good one for early species with 13 different amongst 26 moths.
Small Quaker, Clouded Drab, Brindled Pug and Chestnut were species recorded here before for me, but 9 others I had not seen here yet.
They included:
Dotted Border, Yellow Horned, Twin-spotted Quaker, Pale Brindled Beauty, Oak Beauty, March Moth, Water Carpet and two micro's Agonopterix heraclina and Tortricodes alternella.
