Bactrahedra praeangusta

Look back series - July

Friday 10th July

Hale Wood, Kilgwrrwg

Not a great deal to report at this location, however anything recorded here is undoubtedly useful as a lesser known tetrad square, so it all adds up. Counted 41 arrivals to the light of 26 species. The most interesting to me and a new acquintance was this micro, Bactrachedra praeangusta.

Bactrachedra praeangusta (Poplar Cosmet)

A odd, elongated micro which must feeding on 'Willows' at his location. It is widespread nationally and supposedly common. The larvae feed on Catkins and seeds of various trees including White Poplar, Aspen, White Willow and Goat Willow and is generally seen between June to August. More than likely this is an overlooked micro in V35 I suspect given it's grey tones.
