24th May

Chepstow Park Wood-part 2, micro's.

Just recently had confirmation of some micro's discovered at Chepstow Park Wood (thanks Sam).

The highlight among the 7 species of micro is the Brown knot-horn (Matiella fusca). This could well be a new site for it.

Matiella (Pyla) fusca

I first cast eyes on it at Wentwood back in September 2015. A further sighting to my great surprise turned up in my garden trap suggesting it maybe feeds on cultivated heathers in urban environments in August 2017. This now is the 3rd sighting within 10 miles or so giving more credibility to is presence in the South-East of the county.

Carpatolechia proximella

Another micro I've seen a few times this year is Black-speckled Groundling (Carpatolechia proximella). This guy gets on Birch and Alder which accounts for it's presence at this site.
