Rewind: June 2022

Sorry for the lack of posts recently - life has rather got in the way. There has been some excellent mothing conditions in 2022, especially for wanderers and migrants, so I'm going to post a few highlights with photos.

7th June 2022: MV trap at Dingestow Court

1 Light Brocade (8th Dingestow record but the first here since 2007)

16th June 2022: MV trap at Dingestow Court

1 Pine Hawkmoth (3rd Dingestow record, following records in 2019 and 2021)

23rd June 2022 (warm southerly airflow): MV trap at Dingestow Court

1 Dark Spectacle (2nd for Dingestow), 1 Bordered Straw (5th), 1 Vestal and 1 Metzneria lappella (new for Gwent)


24th June 2022 : LUN lure at Dingestow Court Lake

1 Triaxomasia caprimulgella (the 1st Welsh record of this small Tineid)

  2. The first one was Sam's in 2019, there haven't been any records anywhere else in VC35.

  3. John Dawson has also recorded Pine Hawkmoth at Tintern, in 2019/20 I think. It's disappointing if his record hasn't got into the system.
