Redhouse Barns, Goldcliff, 19th October 2022

I ran the MV Robinson trap over-night. In the morning I recorded 18 species, including 4 Rush Veneer, a Gold Triangle, Hypsopygia glaucinalis and an Oak Rustic - 2nd VC35 record and 2nd Welsh record.  The 1st record was on 11th October last year in Caldicot and was caught by Austin Rice. It has been spreading north since 1999 when it was first recorded on the Isle of Wight. The larval foodplant is Holm Oak and there is a very large one growing opposite Redhouse Barns. However, this specimen may have been a wanderer, given the easterly winds last night and other migrants caught.
