Ancylis myrtillana x2?

Among the moths in the Dingestow Court MV on the night of 1-2/6/2018 was an Ancylis with what looked to be too irregular a basal patch for A badiana.  It matched A. myrtillana very well, but I'm not 100% certain of the ID (there's no Bilberry within 10km of Dingestow, and perhaps A. badiana is variable) so will gen det it soon [gen det confirmed the ID as a male myrtillana].  A couple of hours later I swept several definite A. myrtillana from Bilberry heathland on the Blorenge.  Their patterning certainly looks very similar.

Anclyis myrtillana (gen. conf.) from Dingestow Court (left), and definite A. myrtillana from Blorenge (right)

The highlight of a series of quick stops between Keeper's Pond and Garn-yr-erw was the Vetch-feeding Tortricid Grapholita lunulana, which I have never seen before.  There are just 4 previous Gwent records, although one of them is from a similar area - Steve Williams photographed one near Brynmawr a couple of years ago.

Other nice things in the Dingestow MV that night were Crassa tinctella (2nd Dingestow and Gwent record), Dioryctria abietella, Green Silver-lines and Figure-of-80.

  1. gen det confirmed the Dingestow Ancylis myrtillana - a male with distinctive long narrow adeagus. This is a remarkable record of a wandering Tortricid.
